Get the most out of your advising experience
Whenever you speak with a West Center advisor, it’s best to be prepared! These handy tips will help you get the most out of your advising sessions
Share the Skeletons!
Be ready to talk about the good, bad and the ugly, financial issues, internal grievances, and everything in between. Our advice is always confidential. And if we need to share something in order to attain a goal, we will always ask your permission first.
Think Big!
In order for you and your business to benefit from advice, you need to declare all the challenges. With everything out on the table, your advisor will be best equipped to offer you practical solutions.
Ask Questions!
Think about what questions you want your advisor to answer. Questions can be as simple as, “How do I get a business license?” or as philosophical as, “How will my business fulfill me?” Asking yourself these kinds of questions will make for a more thoughtful and meaningful interaction with your advisor.
Do your Homework!
You’ll get the most out of your sessions by following through on your advisor’s suggestions for research and next steps. Always remember: you are in the driver’s seat; your advisor is just showing you the best way to move ahead.
